Sustainability at Heart

For a sustainable Highland future

Good Highland Food has been proudly rooted in the Highlands since 2003.

We create outstanding food and hospitality experiences built around local produce, local people, and a strong sense of place. Working with Highland producers is at the heart of what we do, helping every event tell a genuine local story while supporting the rural economy.

We also believe great food businesses should contribute to thriving communities. Through long-standing charitable support and a new Community Interest Company formed with fellow Highland businesses, we’re investing in a more sustainable future for the region — including taking on the Highlands & Islands Food and Drink Awards in their 20th year.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Highlands

Since our inception in 2003, Good Highland Food has been rooted in the belief that the best food tells the story of its place. From the beginning, we have focused on using local Highland produce wherever possible, celebrating the seasonality, character, and quality that comes from working close to home.

Sustainability for us isn’t a marketing line — it’s the way we do business every day. We build long-term relationships with local farmers, crofters, fishers, foragers, bakers, and artisan makers. This keeps supply chains short, supports the rural economy, and ensures every menu has a genuine local story behind it.

Local Food, Local Impact

The Highlands are extraordinary, but they are also fragile. Rural communities can be vulnerable to changing economies, population loss, and the pressures that come with distance and limited infrastructure. We recognise this reality, and we believe food businesses have a responsibility to be part of the solution.

That’s why Good Highland Food contributes actively to charitable organisations and community development initiatives across the region. We’re proud to play a practical role in strengthening local resilience — whether that’s through direct support, partnerships, or simply choosing to spend locally, every day.

Investing in a Sustainable Future

In the wake of Covid, we joined forces with a number of other Highland businesses to establish a Community Interest Company (CIC). Together, we share an ambition for the Highlands to become a global leader in sustainable development.

There is much still to be done, but we are immensely proud of the joint private investment of over £1 millioncommitted to this initiative. It represents not just funding, but a shared belief that the Highlands can lead the way in a fairer, greener, and more locally-powered future. We’re excited to keep building on that momentum in the years ahead.

Celebrating Highland Excellence

Through the CIC, we are taking on the running of the Highlands and Islands Food & Drink Awards in their 20th year. These awards shine a light on the talent, innovation, and hard work of producers and hospitality businesses across our region — and we’re honoured to help guide this milestone year and ensure the awards continue to grow in impact and reputation.

People at the Heart of What We Do

Good Highland Food exists to celebrate Highland produce, strengthen Highland communities, and help shape a more sustainable future for this remarkable place. We are proud of what has been achieved so far, and even more excited about what comes next — locally rooted, community-minded, and always inspired by the Highlands.
