Good Highland Secrets!

When we launched our new web site, we decided to share some Good Highland Secrets!

It’s so easy to be passionate about good Highland produce, with some of the best producers on our doorstep.

It wouldn’t feel like the Highlands unless we were able to offer a great selection of fish and game and we love working with Malcolm at Duncan Fraser in the Old Market, Inverness who is as excited to bring you the best local produce as we are!

Over the years we have also loved working with the team at Williamsons who are always adding to their great selection of local producers and delivering to our door (leaving us to do what we do best – cook it!).

Whilst we are passionate for all Highland produce, it would be wrong not to tell you of our chef Jim’s ability to cook some amazing meat dishes – beef & venison in particular – accompanied by some of the tastiest sauces you will find.  A particular favourite to supply it is Duncan Fraser Butchers who have been supporting local farmers in the Highlands and Islands for many years.

We have a great supplier in John Munro, Dingwall, particularly pork for our Hog Roast!  The extra support of the Munro’s driver to pick up our favourite oatcakes when delivering to the Hebrides (or even to drop off a bottle of wine to one of our brides to taste!) is what makes things even more special about being in this industry in the Highlands and Islands.

We are looking forward to a busy season and to working with Margaret Sutherland from the Natural Vegetable Company, Inverness –  growing some of the best local produce on our doorstep.   Its great to find great Highland producers of Margaret’s standard on our doorstep.

We’re often asked by our event and dinner party clients to suggest good sociable, sharing food – we can’t recommend highly enough the great selection of smoked meats and fish that Summer Isles offer – served with some Cullissee grape seed oil and a basket of Jane Stokes organic rustic breads from Loch Ness, it’s a winner every time!

Another favourite is the Good Highland Cheese board – as well as looking great, Mike’s selection of (Tain’s) Strathdon Blue, Mull Farmhouse Cheddar, Campbeltown Brie, Kintyre Applewood Smoked with Macleans of Benbecula Hebridean Oatcakes together with our very own Good Highland Food Red Onion relish and range of chutneys has earned great feedback over the years.  We’re always out to find others but it will take a bit for us to change this winning selection!!
